Free Split PDF Tool: Separate or Extract PDF Pages Without Uploading

Got one big PDF and you only need a part of it? Or you need to break it into pieces? This is the tool for that. Drop the file, tell it which pages go where, and download. Nothing gets uploaded, nothing gets saved anywhere. It all happens right inside your browser.

Three ways to split, depending on what you're after:

• Every page: type nothing, just click. You get one PDF per page, all packed in a ZIP.
• Custom groups: type something like 1-3, 4-6, 8. You get three separate PDFs: pages 1-3, pages 4-6, page 8.
• Extract pages: type something like 2, 5-7, 10. You get one single PDF with pages 2, 5, 6, 7, 10.

Good to know

Ek cheez yaad rakho: comma ka matlab mode ke hisaab se badalta hai. Custom groups mein comma = new file. Extract mein comma = same file mein aur pages add karo. Do chapters chahiye alag-alag? Custom groups. Ek file mein 3 jagah se pages chahiye? Extract.

How to Use It

• Drop your PDF. One file at a time. The tool actually checks that it's a real PDF, not a JPG somebody renamed to .pdf.
• Wait for thumbnails. You'll see a small preview of every page. Handy for spotting the cover, blank pages, or where one invoice ends and the next starts. Big scanned files take a few seconds longer. There's a cancel button if you picked the wrong file.
• Pick a mode. Every page, custom groups, or extract. Tip: clicking on any thumbnail automatically switches you to extract mode, because clicking pages means "I want these pages in one file."
• Type your pages (if needed). The tool checks your input before running. Typed 18-24 on a 20-page file? It'll flag it. Fix the red bit, don't expect it to guess.
• Split and download. One output = a PDF. Multiple outputs = a ZIP. Open the result and check the page count before you send it anywhere.

Good to know

Page numbers wala confusion: the tool counts PDF pages, not the number printed on the page. A report whose cover has no number and whose "Page 1" is actually the third sheet? Type 3, not 1. Thumbnails are there exactly for this.

Mode 1: Every Page as Its Own PDF

Simple. 40-page file in, 40 one-page PDFs out, zipped together.

Best for things where each page really is a separate document: a batch of certificates, salary slips of the whole team in one file, delivery challans, scanned receipts, single-page forms.

Example

Your college sent one PDF with all six students' provisional marksheets, one per page. Every-page mode, download the ZIP, unzip, and each student gets their own file. Done in under a minute.

Don't use it when pages belong together. A 30-page report with three 10-page chapters shouldn't become 30 files. That's a custom groups job. Also, a 1,000-page file will give you 1,000 PDFs. The tool will do it, but ask yourself if the person receiving it really wants that.

Mode 2: Custom Groups (Several Files, Your Way)

Type each group separated by commas. Each group becomes one PDF. A hyphen means a range.

1-2, 3-10, 11-15 gives three PDFs: overview (2 pages), proposal (8 pages), appendix (5 pages).

Pages you don't mention simply get left out. So 1-3, 4-6, 8 skips page 7 entirely. Useful when there's a blank page or an unwanted sheet in between.

Example

Your CA sends one 15-page PDF with three months of bank statements, 5 pages each. Type 1-5, 6-10, 11-15 and you get three clean monthly statements, ready to upload wherever each one is needed.

If you type just one range like 4-9, you get one PDF directly, no ZIP.

Mode 3: Extract Pages Into One PDF

Pick pages from anywhere in the document and get them together in one new file. Click thumbnails or type 2, 5-7, 10. Result: one 5-page PDF, pages in the order they appear in the source.

Example

A 24-page property document, but the lawyer only needs the sale deed on page 3, the map on pages 8-10, and the receipt on page 21. Extract 3, 8-10, 21, send a 5-page file instead of the whole bundle.

One thing to watch: if page 10 says "see Annexure on page 18" and you didn't include 18, that reference is now pointing at nothing. The tool copies pages, it can't know what you left behind.

Quick Syntax Cheat Sheet

• Type 5: extract mode gives one PDF with page 5; custom groups mode also gives one PDF with page 5.
• Type 2-6: extract mode gives one PDF with pages 2 to 6; custom groups mode also gives one PDF with pages 2 to 6.
• Type 1-3, 7, 10-12: extract mode gives one PDF with all 7 pages; custom groups mode gives three separate PDFs.

Common mistakes the tool catches: a range with no end (like 5-), page 0, a page beyond the last one, or stray symbols. Fix them and run again.

Does Quality Drop? Does the Text Stay Searchable?

No, and yes. The tool copies pages as they are, it doesn't take a screenshot of each page and stuff it into a new PDF. So sharpness stays the same, and if you could Ctrl+F for a word in the original, you still can in the output.

But it can't add what wasn't there. A scanned page with no OCR text layer stays a picture. And splitting doesn't compress anything, so a heavy scanned file gives you heavy pieces. For that, use our Compress PDF tool afterwards.

Signed PDFs, Forms, and Bookmarks: Read This Once

A PDF is more than what you see. It can carry a digital signature, fillable form fields, bookmarks, internal links, and attachments. These are tied to the whole document.

When you split it, that context breaks. A bookmark to page 50 means nothing in a 3-page extract. A form field that calculates from another page may misbehave. And a digital signature will almost certainly show as invalid on the new files, because the file it signed no longer exists in that form.

Watch for this

Never split a signed PDF and send it as "the signed copy". Keep the signed original as-is. If pieces need signing, split the unsigned version first, then sign each piece.

Limits

• 100 MB per file, 1,000 pages max, 200 MB total output.
• Password-protected, corrupt, or half-downloaded PDFs won't work. Open it in any PDF reader first; if it doesn't open there, it won't open here.
• Your phone or laptop does the work, so a huge scanned file that runs fine on a desktop might struggle on a budget phone. Close other tabs and try again.

Something Not Working?

• "Not a PDF" error: it's probably an image or Word file renamed to .pdf. Re-download or export a proper PDF from the original app.
• Passes the check but fails later: encrypted or damaged file. Make an unencrypted fresh copy from the source software.
• Got 3 files instead of 1: you were in custom groups. Switch to extract mode.
• Mode changed on its own: you clicked a thumbnail. That's by design. Switch back if you didn't mean to.
• Thumbnails stopped loading: file is too heavy for your device's memory. Close tabs, or split a smaller section first.
• Can't search text in output: the source was a scan with no OCR. Splitting can't fix that.
• Link/form/bookmark broken: explained above. Try including a wider range of pages, or use a full desktop PDF editor for complex interactive files.

What This Tool Won't Do

Edit text on a page. Run OCR. Compress. Remove passwords. Repair broken files. Keep signatures valid. Merge multiple PDFs (that's a different tool, below).
