About Rotate PDF Online Free
What does Rotate PDF Online Free do?
Rotate PDF pages 90 or 180 degrees, all pages or just the ones you select, entirely in your browser.
Free Rotate PDF Tool: Fix Sideways and Upside Down Pages Without Uploading
Scanned something and it opened sideways? Whole file upside down because the pages went into the scanner the wrong way? Drop it here, turn the pages the right way, download. That's the whole job.
You can rotate every page in one go or click just the ones that need fixing. Turn them 90 degrees left, 90 degrees right, or a full 180 degrees. Your file never leaves your browser, so there's no upload wait and no copy sitting on someone else's server.
Good to knowThis tool doesn't take a photo of each page and paste it back. It simply tells the PDF "display this page turned this way." Text stays text, quality stays exactly the same, and Ctrl+F still finds words.
When You Actually Need This
- The whole scan from the Xerox shop came out sideways
- Half the pages went into the feeder the wrong way and are upside down
- You clicked a photo of a form on your phone, saved it as PDF, and it's lying on its side
- A merged PDF where one section came from another source and faces a different way
- Your PDF viewer shows it fine after you press rotate, but the moment you WhatsApp or email it, the other person sees it sideways again
That last one catches a lot of people. Most PDF viewers (Chrome, Adobe Reader, phone gallery apps) only rotate the display, temporarily. Close and reopen, or send it to someone, and it's back to sideways. This tool writes the rotation into the file itself, so it stays fixed everywhere.
Good to knowPehle dekho, phir ghumao: a landscape page inside a portrait document isn't always a mistake. Wide tables, bank statements, charts, and Excel exports are often meant to be landscape. If it reads fine as-is, leave it alone.
How to Rotate PDF Pages
- Drop your PDF. One file at a time. The tool checks it's a real PDF, not a JPG someone renamed to .pdf.
- Wait for the thumbnails. Every page appears as a small preview so you can see exactly which ones are wrong. Big scans take a few seconds. There's a cancel button if you grabbed the wrong file.
- Select pages, or don't. Click a thumbnail to select it. Click several if they need the same turn. Select nothing and the rotation applies to the whole document.
- Pick a direction. Rotate Left 90 degrees, Rotate Right 90 degrees, or Rotate 180 degrees.
- Check the thumbnails, then download. The tool builds a fresh PDF and checks it before handing it over. Save it under a different name so you don't confuse it with the original.
Watch for thisNothing selected means ALL pages rotate. Great when the whole file is sideways. But in a mixed document, if you clear your selection and hit a rotate button out of habit, every single page turns. Select first, then rotate.
Whole Document vs a Few Pages
- Nothing selected: every page rotates.
- Pages 3, 7, 11 selected: only those three rotate.
- Select All: every page rotates.
- Clear Selection, then rotate: every page rotates too, since clearing the selection is the same as selecting nothing.
Need different fixes for different pages? Work in rounds. Select the sideways ones, rotate right. Then select the upside-down ones, rotate 180. Each round only touches what's highlighted at that moment.
ExampleAn 8-page home loan file from the bank. Pages 2 and 5 (the scanned ID proofs) are sideways, page 8 (the signature page) is upside down, everything else is fine. Click 2 and 5, hit Rotate Right 90 degrees. Now unselect them, click 8, hit Rotate 180 degrees. Glance at all 8 thumbnails. Download. Two minutes, done, and you didn't have to re-scan anything.
Rotating More Than Once
Rotations add up, just like turning a physical sheet of paper on your desk:
- Right 90 degrees twice equals 180 degrees
- Right 90 degrees three times equals the same as Left 90 degrees
- Left 90 degrees then Right 90 degrees puts you back where you started
- Four turns in one direction brings you back to the original
If a page already had some rotation saved in it by the scanner, the tool adds to that. Don't overthink it. Just look at the thumbnail. What you see is what you'll get.
Reset Rotations vs Clear Selection
These sound alike but do very different things.
- Clear Selection just removes the highlight from pages. Any rotations you already applied stay as they are.
- Reset Rotations undoes every rotation from this session and puts all pages back to how the file came in.
Clicked too many times on a 60-page file and lost track? Hit Reset Rotations and start fresh. Much faster than trying to reverse each click from memory.
Rotating a PDF on Your Phone
Works the same way on Android and iPhone in Chrome, Safari, or any modern browser. A few things to know:
- Tap "Choose file" and pick from Files, Downloads, or your Drive/WhatsApp folder
- Thumbnails are smaller on a phone screen, so pinch-zoom if you're unsure which page is which
- Tap once to select a page, tap again to unselect
- Very large scanned files (100+ pages of colour scans) may struggle on phones with less RAM. If thumbnails stop loading, close other apps and try again, or split the PDF first and rotate in parts
- The rotated file lands in your Downloads folder, ready to share
What This Tool Can't Fix
Tilted scans. If the text runs slightly uphill, say 2 or 5 degrees, that's skew, not rotation. This tool only turns in 90-degree steps. For small-angle straightening, use your scanner's deskew option or a scan cleanup app.
One sideways photo on an otherwise fine page. Rotating turns the whole page, text included. To fix just the image, go back to the original Word or Docs file, or use a full PDF editor.
Password-protected files. If the PDF asks for a password to open, remove it first in the software that created it, then rotate. The tool won't, and shouldn't, break encryption on files that aren't yours.
Signed PDFs. Rotating changes the file, even if the content looks identical. The digital signature will show as broken or "modified after signing." Keep the signed original untouched. If pages need rotating, do it before the signing step, or check whether the receiving party accepts a modified copy.
Limits
- 100 MB per file, 2,000 pages max, 200 MB output
- Corrupt or half-downloaded PDFs won't work. If a normal PDF reader can't open it, this tool can't either
- Your device does the work, so a heavy colour scan that runs fine on a laptop may choke on a budget phone
Something Not Working?
- Wrong pages rotated: nothing was selected, so everything turned. Reset Rotations, select the right pages, try again.
- Turned the wrong way: press the opposite 90 degrees once. For upside-down pages, 180 degrees is one click instead of two.
- File won't load: not a real PDF, or it's encrypted or damaged. Open it in a PDF reader, use Save As to make a fresh copy, retry.
- Thumbnails stop halfway: too heavy for your device's memory. Close tabs, or split the PDF into smaller parts first.
- Download doesn't appear: output over 200 MB, or the file has something unusual inside. Reset and try once more.
- Downloaded file still looks sideways: open it in a different PDF reader first, since some viewers cache the old view. Then check whether you expected one image to rotate rather than the whole page.
What It Won't Do
Rotate by odd angles or deskew. OCR. Crop. Reorder, delete, or add pages. Rotate a single image on a page. Remove passwords. Keep a digital signature valid.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this Rotate PDF tool free?
Yes. No account, no watermark, no daily limit.
Does my file get uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs inside your browser. Switch off the internet after the page loads and it still works.
Will rotating reduce quality or make the file blurry?
No. Pages are not converted to images. Text stays sharp and searchable, and file size stays about the same.
Can I rotate just one page?
Yes. Click its thumbnail, pick a direction, download. The other pages don't change.
I rotated in Chrome or Adobe Reader but it's still sideways when I send it. Why?
Those viewers rotate the display only, temporarily. This tool saves the rotation into the file, so it stays fixed for whoever opens it.
Can I rotate different pages in different directions?
Yes. Select the first group, rotate. Unselect, select the next group, rotate the other way. Download once at the end.
Can I straighten a slightly crooked scan?
No. This works in 90-degree steps only. Use a deskew tool for small angles.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, on Android and iPhone in any modern browser. Very large scans may struggle on phones with limited memory.
Can I rotate a password-protected PDF?
Not while it's locked. Remove the password in the app that created it, then rotate.
Will the rotated PDF open in Adobe, Chrome, and on my phone?
Yes. It's a standard PDF. Any reader that opened the original will open this.
